Uranium mill workers (millers) are entitled to compensation for kidney cancer and kidney disfunction – this is an important distinction between uranium miners and uranium mill workers. Beyond that, the compensation is very similar: $100,000 through the U.S. Department of Justice as well as an additional $50,000 through the U.S. Department of Labor. The miller becomes eligible for an additional $250,000 based on an impairment rating that is performed under Part E of the EEOICPA.

The total amount available under part E of the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA) is $250,000. A miller can reach the $250,000 mark by getting a whole-person impairment evaluation by a medical doctor, or through a wage-loss claim. Those two types of claims for workers involve an impairment rating that can lead to 100% whole body impairment. If a worker reached 100% impairment (and this is unusual), she receives 100% of the compensation available under Part E, so she will receive $250,000.

The total amount available under Part E of the EEOICPA is $250,000. However, a worker could receive a lower impairment rating and still be eligible for remaining lump-sum payment under part E accessed through a claim for wage-loss.
